Well, that could be one of them. Multiple different versions were made. I never really looked into all the differences between them, so I can't advise on which one is best. What I can say is that "The Hobbit - The Tolkien Edit" was the first one of them. Or at least, the first one I heard of, less than a year after the third movie came out.

My favourite I think is called the book edit, it fixes a few problems maple left in, in particular some contradicting dialogue.
