I don't know why they want abortion rights so much. Humans can't impregnate pokemon, and children can just be murdered by Driftloon.
For me this is a dead category.
Haven't played any shooters released this year, and honestly I think gaming journalism has been so discredited that they haven't put out anything significant enough to be worth mocking.
I'm still okay with shooters you play, new or not. Frankly, I think that speaks to the better statement of poor quality releases.
As for gaming journalism, I think some of these are pretty bad. And it's good to have some traditions that keep us to our roots.
Only shooter I played more than an hour or so this year was Borderlands 3 and thats just because I got it for free. Literally have to skip every voice line and cutscene because they are so cringe.
The gameplay is really good through so its sad about the story.
I think I've aged out of game journalism, I can't bring myself to even click on the bait headlines anymore.

Best shooter for me was Cultic, no brainer. Best shooter I’ve played in years, heartily recommend.

Picked up Sea of Thieves this year, and as I spent 80% of my time as a Reaper that means it counts as a Shooter in my book.
Meh game alone, one of the best "play with your buddies" games ever released. Because most of the time it was just me and my one bro Sloopin' it up and sailing circles around bigger ships. Highly recommend to anyone who has that option, easy 100+ hours for a 20$ game.
Is it on sale anywhere?
Yeah, basically everywhere for Christmas. Steam has it for 20$. And its one of those games that just is always on sale somewhere. I got it for that price in mid June.
Does it have to be a game released this year? I don't play new games. Takes over a year for them to get patched and all DLC to be released, and by then you might as well wait for a 75% sale, too.
I like shooters but this year was rather unmemorable. I guess the one I played most was Warframe (review, Wiki with all the info you might need).

I'd like to recommend Grounded for best shooter. Technically it is a first person survival builder with a melee focus but the gameplay is solid, the building and exploration are top notch, and it's just tons of fun. Also, not actively woke.
I'll also throw Deep Rock Galactic into the hat because it's still amazing though not really new. The seasonal content and new updates have made it continuously worth playing. Also, not woke.
It's been a lousy year for gaming in general. A few bright spots but I can't remember a year where we've had so many supposedly A-tier releases hit that ended up being complete garbage.
I haven't heard of it. Do you have any links to any playthroughs, and do you have any idea if it's being discounted right now?
One of many Grounded walkthrough examples. The feel of the game is very solid and satisfying like a lot of melee heavy first person games like Skyrim. It's made by Obsidian so this makes sense. There is a story but it's very creativity focused.
As for DRG, there are hundreds of videos and I'm not sure where I'd start you. The beginners guides aren't really indicative of higher level play and the mission variety and customization options aren't really done justice by anything that I saw on YouTube, but the game isn't exactly new either.
I'm just going to watch what gets recommended, I'll probably try it.
