TSA now uses facial recognition

Good luck.
The major failing points of facial recognition:
Requires a very large, and actually racially diverse, dataset to even just function at a basic level since many that are designed with a core Caucasian [or whatever] dataset flat out can't accurate pick up anyone who is black let alone ID them. Humans are bad enough when it comes to distinguishing between various Chinese and Japanese individuals that an AI won't help much there when it's coded with those actual prejudices towards what counts as a notable feature to use for an IDing marker.
Even removing hats, glasses, and every other accessory someone may be wearing you can still going to encounter physical features that fuck these up. Tattoos might be manageable but beards do not play nice with these things at all. I had to renew my passport a while back and it failed so many times in the end I had to tick a box that confirmed I was doing everything I should have been as well as include a note saying "My mouth is closed" because my beard is that fucking big probably only a third of my face is actually visible at any one time.
Shitposting thought: I wonder what would happen if you gave a facial recognition tool a large enough dataset that it might end up labelling anyone with a large enough nose as belonging to certain ethic groups 👀
Sus
Transdiegos are Sandiegos, bigot!
I thought it was creepy enough at MCO when coming back from Cannes. They had this machine that rose up and down to your face height to take a picture of you. It was so unnerving.
Even though it spits out false positives all the time, I'm surprised they weren't using it already, honestly.
When we give retards power over us “because of the safety!” We are moving close to china :

So is Canada. But at the moment (we all know what that means) it is optional for citizens.
This is from personal experience, and I realize I'm doxxing at least my nationality but all for the greater good eh?
If you arrive at a customs area in Canada where they have the automated customs terminals for initial screening you will be directed to scan your passport and then have your face scanned for biometric matching. Obviously this would put more of your face into whatever database they're running. However, if you read the TOS on the terminal, assuming it hasn't changed since I went though, you will note that Canadian citizens can instead opt to be screened by an actual CBSA agent rather than having your face scanned.
If you bring this up to the employees, likely they will be confused, speak jack all in terms of English, and try to walk you through the process of scanning your face because apparently no one actually reads the fucking words put in front of them. Be polite, but firm and insist on talking to the agent. The CBSA agent will probably also be confused but explain to them that the fancy box said you're opting for an in person screening.
My agent asked why and I was just honest that I didn't trust the government with the info given their track record with personal info security.
God help us all. Neuromancer was not exactly a happy ending I'm looking forward to seeing IRL...
This has been in the works for years
For real. I've never been to the USA, there's a conference there organized by my employer next year that I should go to (and I'd get all expenses paid for), and I'd love to see some of the places I only know from movies - but between TSA's ongoing bullshit and the vax mandate that's still in place and which probably will be even next summer, there's no way.
