I'm obviously not wishing for this, since I fly quite a bit, but I wonder if Putin would not simply hand those captured Stingers to terrorist groups who could use them to take down civilian airliners.
I don't think Putin cares about terrorism one way or there other, unless they target him or what is his.
Strategically, this would be a way to make the West pay for what it has done. People here would be absolutely incandescent with rage at our governments if the Stingers they gave to the fake country were then used by terrorists to take down our airlines.

Ukrainians will sell those to terrorist. Putin is not a terrorist ally.
