Welcome to why you don't ever trust the bubble to choose leaders, because they end up being extremely ineffectual outside it.
This is why Labour are in the lead, the Conservative voters base won't vote for a party they have no faith in and events like this don't instill confidence.
The Tories leadership contest procedures are a joke.
The membership is forced to choose between two shills that the corrupt MPs put up.
A choice between Truss and Sunak is choosing between drinking piss or eating shit.
The Tory membership should be the only ones choosing the Tory leader.
I completely agree, but, as someone who has actually worked in the system of party politics (different country, same shit), I am afraid that this simply does not happen. Ever. In any major party.
It hasn’t since at least the 1960s in Australia. I imagine the UK is similar, if not worse…
They know that if they allowed that, their vested interests and donors would completely lose control, and we simply cannot have that, now can we?!
