The HBO series basically had nothing whatsoever to do with the graphic novel. It was just some weird racial shit, and it's primary purpose was to obsess over the Tulsa Race Riot and rename it the Tulsa Race Massacre.
This fucking show caused wikipedia to change the fucking title: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tulsa_race_massacre&oldid=920448486 Note that even though the current page says massacre, the older version before this HBO show said riot consistently for many years.
Regressive leftists have been arguing about this title since 2016 by the looks of it.
