That’s a very broad brush. I like Walsh but there is a ton of anime going back decades.
My thoughts exactly. There's more respect for classical western art/architecture/music/culture, etc...packed into one Ghibli movie than the entire capeshit universe combined.
He's using a retarded brush. No argument whatsoever other than "it seems that way"
It's just a wrapper for storytelling. Any more you want to hook on to that clothespin is just generating associative sin.
If his exposure to anime is the same as mine in the past 10 years (sickos posting their fetishes in cartoon form), I think I'd consider it satanic, too.
With that said, I agree with him that adults shouldn't be watching cartoons, even though I'm guilty of doing that at times. I just think we, as a society, need to go back by at least 7 decades in terms of men being men and women being women.
These people would be saying "adults shouldn't be reading books" in a different era.
Well I’ve seen older anime I like. I tend to read more than I watch tv and of that tv I watch a lot of older programming but I’m not gonna begrudge someone who watches cartoons. I enjoy watching cartoons I watched as a kid of I see them on like GI Joe or The Simpsons.
I get what you are saying about maturity but I kind of get tired of people wagging their fingers and being the judge of what’s appropriate to watch. I still collect and read comic books. Although now they combine as an investment along with my stocks. I say watch want you want but remember priorities. I’m currently single but if I had a family they would come first. If a father is putting anime ahead of his family that’s a problem of course.
But I agree about women being women and men being men but there is nothing wrong with hobbies in moderation. I still play video games but not as much as I used to die to work
Adults shouldn't be watching television, they should be reading books.
Wait, that's 5 decades.
Adults shouldn't be reading books, they should be fighting in the war effort.
There we go.
It's fuckin' entertainment media, and it should be evaluated AS that concept. Entertainment media poses minimal societal gains, some marginal reductions in crime rate at most. But if you're painting with that brush, it's all or nothing. A Song Of Ice And Fire is some rape-fest fanservice shlock, in both its TV and book forms. Worse than most anime in that regard, I'd say.
So stop reading books, if they aren't technical manuals for tanks or mortars you operate under the government's rule. Because otherwise, they're pointless.
eeeh if the western entertainment industry had gone full in on animated works like japan has people would probably not think this as much
different cultures and all
there is a fair amount of anime out there that is not for children and I don't just mean in a "there's fucking boobs everywhere" sense, I mean in a "theres violence and the series tackles adult themes" sense or just that children won't understand it
although really i can't think of many recent examples... things like paranoia agent or serial experiments lain and possibly jormungand
What did you even watch the last 10 years? 10 years is such a long span of time, there's been tons of amazing shows out there with thought provoking storylines, good characters, amazing animation and great soundtracks. Just last year and this year(with season 2) we've been graced with Komi can't communicate, an anime I feel is as perfect as they can get to the point where even very critical friends of mine couldn't find one thing to actually critique(just nitpick).
I'd agree with you there's some degenerate stuff out there, I will vehemently disagree with you when it comes to it all being the same, you're just not looking outside of your bubble.
I don't watch anime, it's just me coming across it because people post their crap in places where it doesn't belong because they love injecting their hobbies into everything.
Same with a lot of fandoms, really. Thank god the ponypeople got less and less, that was beyond annoying at the time.
It's a joke
