Nowadays it is expected that every high-ranking politician is compromised in some way, especially if they claim to represent the right wing. Yet for once, DeSantis's recent decisions don't seem like controlled opposition or empty promises.
No matter how you look at it, shipping immigrants directly to Martha's Vineyard is not a token gesture. MV is a true stronghold of the elite. Obama, Bill Gates, these are not B-listers.
Now we've all seen this play out one too many times, me included, so it's very tempting to simply assume the black-pilled position. There is some perverted sense of comfort in that position, to never be unpleasantly surprised. But... maybe uncucked politicians are sometimes allowed to keep operating?
to be fair, no politician this sub would be super happy with to ourguy levels could ever get elected. I think DeSantis is as close as it gets.
There is a commonly held belief among talking heads and beltway insiders that Republicans need to tack towards the center to get elected, and that is utter garbage. Obama and Clinton needed to pretend to be moderate because they were far left lunatics at heart, and the populace doesn't want that. Reagan and Trump crushed it being unabashedly right, but then governed as moderate lefties. When a Republican plays the moderate game in elections, you get a Romney or Jeb.
The actual pattern is that politicians need to pretend to be right to get elected regardless of party, but then betray the voters by governing left. A platform of throwing antifa out of helicopters would sweep a clean presidential election, and re-election would be secured the moment Vaush was phyically removed on stream.
