I think they thought that WoT will be a success but have less faith in this one. Or they want more attention as I do not think there is to much hype for The Rings of Power
With the Wheel of Time I lost all faith when I saw the casting and the first thing the showrunner discussed was lgbt representation I knew it would be garbage. Plus I heard that they mess up the storyline and change things to give the females even more spotlight.
What is nuts is that the books are full of female characters with authority. Also once they leave their town they meet people of different races. Look at Matt’s wife for example. Yet that wasn’t enough for Amazon.
We really should just keep pointing out what happens to her in the end. Not that I expect the showrunner to stick to that, rather instead pull a Filoni and prevent his waifu from getting killed.
I gave up when I read that Perrin killed his wife in episode 1.
What a pointless, stupid change. In the books, Perrin wasn't married. If the showrunners are willing to make huge, pointless changes like that to the first episode, it says nothing positive about what they'll do to the rest of the show.
Yea he didn’t get married til a number of books later. Also I heard they showed moraine in a lesbian relationship. I know the books mention pillow friends but they didnt spend an excessive amount of time on it. Plus she married a dude by the end of the books.
Ugh so stupid. I just do not understand the Hollywood mindset (seen in Wheel of Time, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc) that basically says "You know these hugely successful and beloved by generations of fans works? Fuck it, I'm a 30-something millennial who got 'famous' for being on Survivor and I know better than Robert Jordan."
Even then JKR wrote HP to still possibly include Nevil as a/the Chosen One which is why his parents were tortured then murdered because said Chosen One was meant to be born around a specific time and both Harry and Nevil applied. While Harry carries the lion's [heh] share of the burden Nevil does later on play a significant part in destroying the big bad by pulling off a Crowning Moment of Awesome [pulling the Gryffendor sword out the Sorting Hat] and killing/destroying the final Horcrux.
Neither the books or the films made any allusions Harry wasn't the protag though despite the importance Nevil might play nor when he did play that role.

I lost all faith after the showrunner said his favorite character was Egwene, and the race casting

Yea I remember hearing about that. You are right. The books are very clear
