How “liberals” speak: weird non-sentence from Anne Heche (who died today) about the whole shituation with her ex, Ellen Degeneres. It literally doesn’t even make any sense, lol… Ah, trendsbians… This woman was a serial philanderer (or the female equivalent) and not a great actress to boot… (media.kotakuinaction2.win)

It's not nonsense--it's very similar to what Kanye West was trying to express about agency, about ability, about where you are being not beyond your control.

Sure, but it’s possible to say all that using the actual words…

Instead of this Orwellian doublespeak bullshit.

What she said there was so deliberately obtuse, it’s like… What’s even the point?

Are we so “concerned” about libel now that we have to speak entirely in metaphor..? Because this is just… Naff to the point of ridiculousness, at this point…

Like, I get the message, but fuck, it does not need to be that dense, man…

Just fucking say what you clearly want to say, people! Stop mincing words, dammit!

Oh, come on now. It's not "Orwellian doublespeak," it's simple metaphor. It's no different than anything you'd see in any book, in which the author was getting just a little bit flowery. It's not even badly done.

If I were asked to speak ill of someone I loved or had loved, I'd probably come up with something similar.

I… Flatly disagree.

Then again, perhaps some of that is cultural.

An Australian would never speak like this, even if it was about someone they “loved” or “had loved”, as you say.

Nor would a Northern European. Nor would a German, Belgian or Dutch. Nor would a Russian. It’s flatly not a thing, to do this, in any of these cultures…

So… Depends on your cultural background, I suppose.

We (as in Aussies) are much more blunt and… Straightforward, than Yanks, Canucks and even Brits. And yet that is nothing, nothing compared to people from those other places I mentioned.

So… It does nothing, for me personally.

Say what you mean, and mean what you say, in my book.

She did. It's easily parsable, and not particularly ambiguous or confusing. I have no idea why you dislike it so much, or why you think it's an Australian thing to not understand this brand of communication.

She lived long enough to become completely irrelevant which is tragic. God gave her the worlds attention for a time, and she just shit on the opportunity. I don’t know why but her death really upset me. I hadn’t thought of her in many years, and when I saw her picture it stopped me cold. The sadness in her eyes..she just looked ‘gone’. Like she died many years ago on the inside. Perhaps thats why.

Hmm, interesting…

I had never heard of her, so I really didn’t feel all that much…

What made you know about her??

This is, by contrast, how I felt about Olivia Newton-John and Archie Roach (who I met), but not Judith Durham, all of whom also died in the last week…

Especially ONJ…

I was genuinely devastated by her passing, which is… Odd, all things considered.

So that’s interesting!

Your description there applies to both Durham and Roach, too (though they both died of lung conditions. Archie was much younger). Though it doesn’t apply to Olivia. I’ve never really seen someone so vibrant. Which, perhaps, is why that one hit me more. Again, interesting…

Bridget Fonda looks as you describe, now. So does Kelly McGillis (also a lesbian).

Hollywood… Seems to do that. Unfortunately…

She was a popular young actress in the 90’s. So attractive then. My ex wife was her twin. That’s probably why.

Its funny you mention ONJ. She was my first true crush as a kid. This was before Grease, too. I’d sit and my parents car and just listen to her 8-traks and stare at her picture. She was too good for this world and im surprised she lasted as long as she did.

Having said all that: RIP, woman.

It seems thoroughly unfair to “glory” in someone’s death.

She clearly had a bunch of issues…

I have no idea how, or why, she crashed into a house, but… It’s still sad, regardless.

So yeah, Rest In Peace. Condolences to the family, and to her exes.

Except Ellen. Fuck Ellen. She should have been taken off the air long, long ago. Feed the beast and it will eventually consume you… And fuck Portia too, for that matter, as an Australian, lol…
