I highly highly doubt that the White House was unaware of this. Joey might not be, but he ain't aware of shit, even his own.

According to a couple of old retired Feebs I know, this had to have been approved by the AG and Director.

I highly doubt it to, it's just funny to me because saying that you didn't know is actually worse, and makes it look like the FBI is a rouge agency.
