Convenience and inertia. It's the same reason people keep using all these garbage platforms, and the same reason part of the community is still posting on Spez's child porn exchange.
Because it's easier to get people to install Discord than anything else.
In fact you don't even need to install it as the web version is basically the same. But a large number of users will eventually install it once they get active in some communities.
I feel your pain. I've been trying for months to get my friends to switch to another platform, and they just now got around to it this past weekend. The convenience makes change difficult.
I thought that was the point, to use it when playing games. Why would people use it like reddit?
meh, I've used discord a couple of times and that was years ago. The quality of conversation there is shit.
Discord isn't a single entity and forum. If the quality of conversation was shit, it's because you were on a server with shit people.
The idea that there is a global corporate technocracy that will do everything it can to silence its critics is just a conspiracy. It'll never happen.
Welcome to the modern internet, Jimbo. Rules without a hard line in the sand and unclear reasons after you get banned.
Kinda scary that discord is even more tyrannical than reddit.
