It's been like that for a while. Even back in March and April, the only people who wore masks were either really old people or East Asians.

I think the difference is that masks never became a sign of political identity, like they did in America. Even the neoliberals do not want to wear masks. But in America, it became the latest version of 'racism' - where you show your supposed virtue by going even harder in favor of masks than the previous guy.
