They think it's a kind of magic incantation that will protect them from getting fired if someone brings their antics to the attention of their employer.
"Oh, they specifically said they weren't speaking as a representative of the organization," is the nut rattling around in their addled noodle-bowls.
Back when I was an edgy teenager, I was a member of a guild in an MMO. I got yelled at a lot for saying obnoxious shit and making the guild look bad. One day I had the big brain idea to preface all my edgelording with something akin to this disclaimer.
They didn't go for it.
Even online guilds don't want to be associated with immature fuckheads. I don't know why Twitter users think a corporation would.
Almost like the idea of dealing with an obnoxious person puts people off regardless of if they are officially sanctioned.
