Extremely rare, also unarmed does not mean harmless. Qualified immunity should not exist as a defense though, since everyone should be accountable for their mistakes. The courts should take a look the circumstances on a case by case basis.
The problem is there is no solid defense anyone from either side of the political canyon can use for this shooting. Even the right wing argument that we need more armed people somewhat fails - you had tons of parents with guns willing to jump in to save their kids, but the POLICE stopped them.

You've seen how fucked our police forces are the past two years enforcing unjust COVID policies and on top of that having the forces lose their "good" guys because the good ones didn't want to enforce an unconstitutional policy.
And look at what happened - a ton of people were armed and parents were willing to sacrifice themselves to go in there and stop the shooter, all of them were armed, but they couldn't go in. And who got in the way of that? Police.
Face it, the Uvalde police, especially this piece of shit police chief failed EVERYONE. That entire department needs to be fired and replaced with patriots, i.e. like that badass border patrol guy who went balls in when he jumped out of his barber's chair and ran directly to the scene. We need MORE people like that.
