The Freedom Convoy in Ottawa was a great example that there's really no checks and balances on cops in real time.

After the cops beat up and cleared out the truckers for two days, they continued to be uncontrolled and drunk with power in patrolling downtown Ottawa far from the actual battle site in front of Parliament Hill.

They stopped people walking down the street going to buy coffee and threatened them with arrest. They slapped phones out of people's hands when being recorded. They threatened to arrest independent journalists. They set up dozens of roadblocks in the downtown core and told people whether they could enter or not despite having no authority to do so under the Emergencies Act.

They told people to check immediately out of their hotels and leave the area. They threatened to break down doors and windows to access businesses without a warrant. They arrested random people in the streets for simply being in their unlawful, make believe "red zone".

And what came of it, despite Ottawa Police having to tweet out asking people to stop jamming 911 lines with complaints and accounts of firsthand police abuse and misconduct?

Jack shit.

The "independent" SIU committee came publicly out and closed the file on the Mohawk woman who iconically was trampled by the Toronto police horses. Because they said by technicality, there was a loophole that they had no legal obligation to investigate further because the Mohawk women had no broken bones.

Great example, thank you. Gives me the ex redditor instinct to say I wish I could upvote you more than once.
