Democracy is inherently tyrannical, that is why we are a Republic.
All the elites think the same way, especially on the left. I agree with them. Democracy is a joke. The difference between them and me is they pretend to believe in it. Voting is a useful opiate for the masses, and keeps us from realizing it's all a sham and revolting.
Naturally I'd prefer a government that respects individual liberty as much as possible, but honestly I don't really care what system is in place for choosing leaders - as long as everyone is aware of the rules and has to play by those rules. (that's a republic in more words, right?)
But they'll set up a system that looks fair and then break the rules to get what they want. That's not the exception, that's their standard operating procedure. We might as well have a dictator if that's the way it's going to be.
I didn't say voting was irrelevant. Voting is just a tool. It's the concept of the Democracy: as in "the people's state" is a fiction.
I mean, we do, in all but name.
were a republic
Now we are an anarcho-tyranny, aka a democracy.
Democracy is not tyrannical (it has never existed), and you're not a republic but rather an oligarchy (as are we).
The structure is designed to be a constitutional republic. Democracy is inherently tyrannical as it is designed to be mob rule at the behest of charlatans, landlords, and corporation owners who make the general mob dependent upon them in some way or another.
True, but it's hard to deny that our republic is hollow and we do in fact live under an oligarchy. Money dictates who gets into office because of the devil's bargain with "the press"; as a result, Congressmen spend 3/4 of their terms in office raising $ for re-election; in-person balloting by paper is being gradually replaced with remote (mail) and e-balloting, opening many opportunities for cheating at the behest of incumbents of either party; the power of the Presidency is gigantic and rarely checked by Congress; the "2-party system" has degraded into 2 factions that never reconcile on anything but war spending.
We got one fucked-up republic.
