It does, gender is a very specific medical term that is based off the word Genos in Greek and the English term for gender has a completely different definition and root word than the rest of the Latin based languages whose word gender is based on the term genre (which in turn still comes from genos) and like with everything else, the French ass fucked the term and tried to make it based of their definition.

Gender is not a medical term. It's a linguistic term. People don't have genders; words do.
