Until not long ago, I was under the illusion that the military were all about efficiency, and that shit like this wouldn't fly in the armed forces. Like they would be one of the last places infected by all this craziness. I was wrong.
Yeah, I've never served, and was admittedly quite naive about the inner workings of the military. It wasn't until my best friend decided to apply to be a navy officer at the age of 30 that I got to know how stupid things can get in the armed forces.
Imagine your workplace. Now imagine the HR department. Imagine if said HR department had complete authority over your life.
Not just when and where you get to work but also when and where you get to eat, shit, take a leak, what you're allowed to say, think, do, etc. and if they felt like it they could demand that you go die on their behalf. Feels like a shit job? Well sorry, your next chance to quit will come up in 3 years and until then you're here by force of law.
Oh and they also have their own HR police to enforce those decisions against you, with penalties up to and including death.

Requiring officers to be university graduates was a mistake.
It made sense when universities actually taught things like critical thinking.
Tell me you've never served without telling me you've never served.
Which, I suppose, is arguably the correct decision so not trying to knock you at all.
