I have no issue with asserting Ukraine's sovereignty, but I would rather just put political pressure on Russia than "rattle their cage".
I think Ukraine should rebuild it's nukes though.
Ukraine can assert Ukraine's sovereignty. If you need a bigger country to assert your sovereignty you aren't actually sovereign.

We're going to have nuclear power (with the tech from France), so perhaps we should finally become a nuclear power ouselves too.
Even Japan may do it, of all countries.
