Ukrainian soldiers have died for America in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.
Maybe America shouldn't taken away their nuclear arsenal (which was the third largest in the world, and 5 times greater than China's at the time), and given it to Russia(!), in exchange for supposed guarantees of security. (Something never really given to Taiwan.)
