It depends. Did they actually change anything to prevent it from happening again? Did they fire half their staff and replace them with critical thinkers? Did they add an update to all their stories so anybody following old links gets informed of the newspaper's mistake?
If they didn't correct their bad ways then they're just people who see the tide turning and want to surf that wave instead of getting crushed by it - and these are the worst people to give a pass to, the most influenceable and self-serving, because they'll be the first people pushing the next big scam.

When the next scam happens, remind everyone how they handled this, but for now we just need a critical mass of media admitting the actual truth. If we METAPHORICALLY hang them from the rafters as soon as they admit it, we might as well be doing the work of the people who were the primary cause for all this shit. They want the message to be that you'll be punished if you betray the narrative, and that's the exactly the thing you'd be doing.
