Yeah, yeah, “muh blog post”, but seriously, myself and A LOT of others, in the LDSAU Reddit community are thinking about getting out, before things in Aus get much worse.
Some already have. I know they went to Thailand, Bali and the Middle East. Those places aren’t for me, though.
So I’ve been thinking about Poland or Latin America, mostly. It’s fairly straightforward (in normal times) for an Australian of my age group to move to certain other countries on a Working Holiday Visa, at least for a year. If “my country” even LETS me leave, at least…
So… Hypothetically, I know that I can go to Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Poland, Hungary, Greece, Cyprus, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, or a couple of the Baltic states…
Some of those are obviously more appealing than others. I’m still thinking Poland or Slovakia, quite honestly. But if other people have thoughts on this… Fire away!
Obvious this isn’t, initially at least, a long term move, but if Australia actually collapses while I am/we are all gone, then I’m sure I can probably apply for asylum or whatever, lol…
No degree, to clarify. Unfortunately…
Which… Doesn’t help me, I know. 😑
Polish president said he's going to veto the jab-or-else laws, which they consider first for medical, education, law enforcement, military. His own (ruling) party is divided on that, with the health minister being an odious psychopath and the education minister being very unenthusiastic about the idea of forcing the teachers. The center and left parties are running crazy of course.
Or at least it was so last month, because Zi just turn off the radio at work when I hear anything about "the" coronavirus.
I really do not believe Poland will stand up to Von Der Leyen when she controls the purse strings.
Also, I find it somewhat bizarre that you guys have Westfield shopping centres, just as ubiquitously as we do here…
Westfield is an Australian company which was founded by a Jewish Slovak-Hungarian refugee, who somehow ended up essentially founding the Australian football federation, and then became one of Australia’s richest and most corrupt “powerful” men…
Globalisation is weeeeiiirrrddd… 😑
I never heard the name Westfield. We have German supermarkets.
I meant to reply to this comment re Westfield in Poland, but it somehow ended up in the wrong spot on this thread… 🤦🏻♂️
Stupid computer. 😑
Anyway, see below/above, depending on what device you are using, and where it appears for you!
There are "galerie handlowe" but I just have no idea who owns them honestly. Presumed also Germans, maybe Americans.
The coronamaniac health minister is dedicated to bankrupt then as much as just any business.
Then the literal-trade unions respond to this by proposing that instead we should do more jab policies. Madness everywhere.
Right. Yeah, look, I’m unironically going to (try to) move to your country. Seriously.
For some bizarre reason, reading that really… Got to me. 😑
I guess I’m just not used to something so sane.
If I do ever pull this off, I’ll let you know.
Wouldn’t mind having coffee or a beer with a likeminded champ, over there.
I was thinking Warsaw, but Krakow or Gdańsk sound good, too. Which do you prefer, personally?
Yeah, I looked it up...
There's two or three in left-bank Warsaw alone, but looks like it's mostly just there, so maybe not where you are..?
They're ubiquitous in France and Germany, now, apparently, so it could well be that the German supermarkets you refer to are owned by Westfield, too...
But nah, Westfield is what we call "shopping centres"... What the Americans call, I gather, "shopping malls", or "strip malls"...
Centrum handlowe (??) po polsku...
The building/complex that the supermaket sits within, basically...
The thing about Westfield specifically is that the centres are designed with the same principle as casinos: i.e. no clocks anywhere, and like a maze, so once you're in, it's very hard to find your way out again. Also no windows, and the supermarket is placed right at the centre of the... Well, "mall", in order to force you to go past every other shop on the way there...
Clever, if nefarious. Hence... My bringing this up. They're like... Peak crony capitalism, at least in Australia. shrug

Also for instance https://notesfrompoland.com/2021/09/27/anti-vaccine-movement-founded-in-poland-with-support-of-ruling-party-mp/ (in her tweet you can see an example of what lour eftists like to rudicule as "rightwing punctuation" and which is really obnoxious indeed and I've never seen it in other countries but a plenty here, in several variants)
I missed the Minecraft Speech but I sympathize.
Might want to do it before the Aussies get onboard with preventing the unvaxxed from leaving the country. At least one country (Singapore?) has started that initiative already. Yeah...
