It's my understanding that the entire field is basically a grift for the Egytpian ministry that's in charge of all the ancient Egypt stuff. There's a lot of evidence that the conventional narrative we all know is totally inaccurate, but anyone who publicly presents that info is immediately called a pseudoscientist, conspiracy theorist while any supporting evidence they present is ignored. I assume that when you've spent your entire career in an institution that views cherry picking info, and defaming your critics with false, ad hominem attacks as a good thing, you just accept that as the way things work. It's an issue across all of science, but anthropology related fields seem to have real issues in dealing with evidence that contradicts the established narrative.
Anthropology has been destroyed by its politicization, but archaeology still has the evidence of material culture is cannot just set aside, but it is being corrupted also.
For reference, there is a recent PBS special about scanning the pyramids with new scanning techniques (muon scanning, primarily), and the Egyptian government shit all over the team that was doing the work... because the scans were showing that the new theories about how the pyramids were built probably are right.

If you're not familiar with Graham Hancock, I suggest you take some time fix that situation. He's been fighting these guys since the 90s.
I will look for that PBS special too.
