And it is very hard to argue that Communists behaved 'worse' during WW2

They behaved worse before, during, and after. We should have saved the second nuke for Stalin.

That's why Roosevelt's cabal assassinated Patton, after all. Because he wanted to take the opportunity to finish off the Soviets.
