Totally agree. I voted for Trump twice but we need to move forward
DeSantis’s probably a better bet for next time. A lot of people already came in hating Trump. They’d just run the same play as last time against Trump and it’d be a powerful play. DeSantis does a lot of things Trump would be doesn’t tweet admittedly hilarious but polarizing things like Trump. And it’s not like DeSantis is running against much, just Shits and Giggles.
DeSantis barely won his governorship over a literal faggot drug-addict. He mainly won because of Trump's support.
If Trump runs, I don't see any of these "based" republicans beating him in the primary. They have no personality
I agree with you, but then Trump will get BTFOed by the dementia patient and cackles because the Dems will run the same exact playbook as last time and Trump has learned NOTHING about why he lost or what to do to prevent it from happening again.
Good points all around
What does it matter what his reasons were for his comment?
He's right. A cult of personality formed around Trump, which motivated a lot of people. But when the personality behind the cult goes away, so does the motivation, and it all falls apart.
There needs to be an explicit set of values that the people can understand and get behind to drive any lasting movement — values that are greater than any one person, so if that one person drops the flag, someone else will be there to pick it up and lead the charge forward.
He would've been better off saying nothing at all. He could've said so many different things to get your point across without coming off with a "dump Trump" tone. Now he just lost a lot of good will from people. You build your strength so that you eventually won't need him, but you don't say what he just said after ONLY ONE FUCKING VICTORY (that really only accounts for ONE STATE OUT OF FIFTY). Meghan McCain was saying the same shit, trying to divide and get people to betray the foundation that's kept them hopeful thus far.
Trump has a 90%+ approval rating among republican voters. Anyone trying to gatekeep him from conservative politics is a traitor and a snake.
This sounds too much like: "we need to elect an establishment politician".
I could be wrong. Matt may mean we need someone who has a good track record on the local and state level, which is fine, but finding a non-establishment politician with a track record on the local or state level is like finding a unicorn.
We CAN NOT compromise on an anti-establishment candidate. The enemy is the establishment, Democrat and Republican both, and I'll take a dozen Trumps, for all his faults, than one more George W. Bush or John McCain or Mitch McConnell.
Trump personality cult = bad (but not necessarily his fault)
Trump fighting spirit, anti-establishment attitude and common sense business acumen = good
My biggest complaints about Trump don't have anything to do with his mean tweets or cult of personality, they have to do with his excessive spending and his bad appointments to various offices. We need someone who will purge leftists from government and put in strong anti-establishment appointments. He did neither.
I don't know what Matt Walsh's criticisms of Trump are, but until someone better comes along as a viable candidate, I'd still vote for Trump in a heartbeat.
