The good thing about anime is that there are many types for many folks. There's no end to "female empowerment" out there already, this is a pile of regressive bullshit.
I happily embrace the likes of Shoji Sato; Japan needs to amp up the ecchi, it seems to bleeding out in gaming and the 'global standards' infection is going to ruin anime too.
I wouldn’t use the “many types for many folks” position. I know it sounds good and makes you feel good, but it sounds oddly familiar to the “nobody is trying to take your games away” arguments from yesteryear.
Not really, the latter argument is trying to influence gaming to change it to a minority's interests while trying to appease the outraged with a flippant argument.
My point is that the 'diversity' already exists in anime; there are tons of genres and targeted audiences, including 'strong women' and the like. This is undeniable.
Okay, now you’re definitely falling prey to the classic GamerGate argument. By putting forth that sentence, you’ve accepted diversity as a virtue/positive. Anime does not need diversity in any aspect. Diversity is not a positive. Variety maybe, but NOT diversity.
Then you said it was undeniable. I mean, you’ve SEEN the weirdos all over the Internet who DO deny it and want to inject wokeness as part of their denial. The article posted even touches on that denial.
You’re trying to use the same argument that did not work in the West. I think using that argument will be just as ineffective today as it was back then.
I'm not falling to anything. I put diversity in quotes for a reason; comedy, shounen, shoujo, sports, romance, seinen, slice of life, etc. and their combinations/permutations therein -- if you want to use the phrase variety for more positive conoctation, I don't really care.
Japanese consumerism dictates what is sold. With global influence, that's changing, but there's a reason why there are various niche genres or topics in anime and manga...because companies realize there's a market for it, and wish to exploit it. That's how things should be.
I thought you might not, but I at least wanted to bring it up so you could think about it. If we don’t want to repeat the past, we can’t make the same mistakes. That kind of thought will lead to the same sadness we have today.

Thanks to the Western influence, some of my favorite genres only occasionally get new entries, instead of multiple games/series per season. I don’t understand why a majority of people think more Western money is a good thing.
I'm in favor of gatekeeping. My original comment was about why the agenda is bullshit, not some argument I'd bother to have with bad faith person on this topic. I find this thread pointless, so I'll end with that.
I want you to consider how your current-day words relate to past arguments against SJWs. Don’t use the same positions that led Western stuff to be infested with wokesters.
That’s not “bad faith”, and I’m not trying to rile you up. I’m offering you advice based on what I’ve seen over the years.
These people are like those children that want to take the other kids’ toys away not because they want to play with them, but because to them taking away the toys is the game. It doesn’t matter to them how many toys they already have.
I love The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Absolutely fantastic. Even planning another rewatch in a few days. But the rest of his stuff I've seen (Wolf Children, Summer Wars, The Boy and the Beast)? It's fine, but nothing that great, outside of the visuals. And this is now his 3rd film where the plot is about the digital world having a big impact on the real world. It was interesting when Digimon did it in 2000, but it's a message that was already a bit late in 2009 with Summer Wars.
This is the same guy who has taken shots at Miyazaki for how Ghibli films have depicted girls. It makes me wonder if all this is his way of trying to gain some extra attention.
Either way, I get way more excited for Shinkai films than Hosoda's stuff.
They will go more progressive, eventually open their borders as their race and culture disappear in a muddy mix of feminized mass media consumer trash.
[Belle's] message of female empowerment has gained attention for flipping the script on anime, Japan's signature style of animated movies and graphic novels that often portrays girls and women as weak, vacuous and hyper-sexualized.
The message has resonated in Japan during a time when growing numbers of women are calling for change - most recently laid bare through a string of sexist comments by high-ranking Olympic officials that drew fierce backlash.
"I feel that women characters in Japanese anime are often depicted through a lens of desire leading to their sexual exploitation, and too much is brushed off as a freedom of expression," the film's director, Mamoru Hosoda, said during an interview earlier this month at Studio Chizu, his animation studio in the Tokyo suburbs.
.....
Hosoda said he hopes to draw attention to the ways that Japanese animation has shaped the public's perceptions of women and girls, and what it means to be beautiful and powerful.
"Such exploitation [has been] . . . justified with the notion that it's happening in a fantasy world, and not in reality. But I feel that, surely, such perceptions are connected and will influence our reality," he added, as he sipped on coffee at his office, decorated with posters and figurines.
Still reading through the article and it'll be a few minutes before I post some other parts that made me 😨 since I posted this while I cool down from a run. But man, if you thought Japan was free of wokeists...it ain't.

Not a fan of fan service. But it shouldn't be forced out, or taken out due to wokeism. I think Hosada is a victim of his own success. Gets a decent amount of play at film festivals, so around more Westerners maybe and pressured into caving. There definitely is a current of sexualizing kids in Japan and very few stand up against it. So i would understand someone trying to and Leftists seizing it to say "see, they agree". Or some person trying to use wokeism to push for the end of sexualizing kids in anime and not realizing they're playing with fire when they wield the PC mob.

Hosoda worked on Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt through Time, Wolf Children and the Digimon Movie.
Didn't think he would go full woketard like this.
Sad to see.
Japan needs to fight back against wokeism before they too are ruined by it.

Women vote in Japan so.... never going to happen.
They will go more progressive, eventually open their borders as their race and culture disappear in a muddy mix of feminized mass media consumer trash.
Physiognomy strikes again.

Reminder that the average nips don't feel this way.
This is the globalist infected media regurgitating what their master's will them.
Those globalists understand that they don't need to tell or report the truth. If they say a lie enough times people will begin to believe it.
