No, I think they brokered a deal with the Taliban and Pakistan, decided they didn't give a shit about the Kabul government, and fucked off on purpose.
I think the Kabul government realized that the game was up and the US was now properly going to abandon them to the Taliban and the Warlords, so they didn't risk a fight that would have gotten a lot of people killed unnecessarily.
If not this, then we are looking at one of America's most spectacular military failures in history.
Even if that was the case, I dont imagine "Saigon on steroids" was part of the deal. And I think its why you see so much of the Establishment desperately flailing right now try to do anything and everything they can to try and establish a narrative, but nothing is really taking hold. They cant even really blame Trump because even within "goldfish memory" timespan, Biden was building himself up as the glory was going to be all his. But Biden, or the people controlling him, didnt even have an exit plan. They just kind of heard the Taliban scream "Go" and now they have no idea what is even going on and a lot of people who should have already been gone are still there!
I suppose our only saving grace is that the Taliban are not as stupid as ISIS, and seem to be aware that if they go around and start killing Americans, it will bring holy hell down on them, so they are leaving us (mostly) alone.
This is actually worse than Saigon. The ARVN did attempt to make a fighting retreat. Many units continued to fight until they had to basically dissolve; they just couldn't resist NVA armor without enough proper US Air Support.
And I agree, this probably wasn't fully the plan. I actually think they were going to negotiate some sort of transfer between Warlords or something after the US left. Maybe some sort of allowed soft coup. But the Taliban appear to have fucked the Americans diplomatically. I think the Taliban were making private deals to each of the Warlords to basically roll up the whole government coalition all at once.
Psaki is actually talking like the Taliban are going to be a recognized government going forward, suggesting to me that there was probably a plan in place for this, but it wasn't supposed to be this much of an embarrassment.

They've been too busy trying to win a war of Woke Imperialism and purging American institutions of wrong thinkers to win a war against genuine terrorists.
Makes you wonder who they think the real enemy is.

No, our only saving grace is that the establishment is so weak that they literally aren't capable of doing anything right. They lost Afghanistan, they've lost the Capitol Building, they're even losing compliance with the states.
The establishment is our enemy (since they have deemed us to be theirs), and they aren't capable of defending damn near anything.

Probably pretty easy to do. That is a section of the world where your word is still supposed to mean something, and we gave our word that we would be gone by May. When Biden/his Handlers decided to unilaterally changed the leave date for entirely PR-based reasons, it would have been trivial for the Taliban to go to the warlords and say "Look, the Great Satan prepares to betray us yet again." And of course, those warlords are just going to say "Say no more fam. You have my militias."

And on that note, I dont think they really grasp what beast they are feeding outside of their Woke institutions out here in the real world. Because in my neck of the woods, this whole farce has just been taken as another thing to quietly seethe over, and one more grudge to go in The Book. I suppose the only thing I can hope for is that its turned into political action that makes the TEA Party look downright tiny.

From a counter insurgency perspective, the kind of weakness the Biden regime demonstrates is incredibly dangerous.
