I was listening to Eric July/Young Rippa and he was talking about that Emilia Clarke comic book and an interview she gave where she talked about how growing up the local comic book store made it clear that "girls weren't allowed" and the usual garbage about lack of female representation. At least she made an original character and didn't ruin yet another classic character, but still she made the same idiotic statement.
I swear they are all reading from the same script. If you are a woman who likes comic books, video games, etc., then go ahead and enjoy whatever hobby, but a hobby is not obligated to change to suit your needs. That goes for everyone but you generally see grifters like Zoe Quinn or Anita who push this message and for some reason companies listen to their garbage and ignore the fact that there were women who were in the hobby already. Just so tired of any hobby where white males are the majority being constantly attacked. I even remember an article saying that Star Wars had a "white male problem".
The cult of representation we see today kind of reminds me of when I was a kid and my friend a few houses over and I would play with our G. I. Joes and other action figures and have them fight wars or take a box top to make a wrestling ring. Sometimes his little sister would want to play but then complain about not wanting to do a wargame and then his mom would make us do what she wanted to do so we ended up incorporating her dolls into whatever family setting she wanted to do.
I will never understand the arrogance of people who enter a hobby, don't like what they see, and instead of finding a hobby they like they demand everything much change to suit their tastes.
I remember at my local comic book store (that also has a section for tabletop gaming) sitting down with people playing D&D or similar games and asking to learn about it and they are always willing to teach, but then again I am actually showing interest in what they are doing and not demanding it "represent me".
The fault is the media and twitter, no one calls out the bullshit of this statements. How did it make it "clear" that girls weren't allowed? Was it a sign on the door saying girls could not go in? Was the staff rude and told her this place is not for her? I've never seen such behavior from "nerds" (I hate this word) in real life, it only seems to exist in their heads. In fact girls, at least in my experienced were treated a lot nicer then guys, I still remember how my WoW GM was easy on girls doing mistakes but tough on the rest of us.
Remember that time that guy might have given you a dirty look yesterday, which you won't even remember a couple of days from now? Well, if you were a woman feminist, you would assume that guy was sexist and had some problem with you because you were a woman. The same for that one time that guy stocking the shelves ignored you in favor of someone else. Or that time your coworker got a raise and you didn't. Every single time life doesn't go perfectly, or some random person is mean to you, that a white male just ignores, a sufficiently woke minority or woman instead attributes to bigotry.
If you keep it in the back of your mind while you're going through your normal life, it's pretty easy to start picking out social interactions which a delusional paranoid woman would assume is misogyny if it happened to them. And then of course they fixate on it, and those ten times in their life someone was mean to them suddenly become the constant background of misogyny they think they're forced to live with.
Is Nanowrino manga? I’ve only recently started watching anime and am looking for some good manga to get.
And I’m sure they live in western countries as they whine about whites.
And growing up my “nerdy” friends and I loved it when we met women who were into gaming or sci-fi.
Of course, it was like the holy fucking gf grail. But these goblins aren't genuinely interested in any of these hobbies. At best they want attention they feel entitled to, at worst they want to subvert and destroy the hobby and it's culture.
Pretending to be a girl in online games is a recognized way of getting carries/assistance/forgiveness
I remember walking into comic book stores and finding people of all genders. Girls were usually to be found in the Manga section. Guys usually in the DC-Marvel "Big Guns, Big Tits, Big Pecs" section. Sometimes vice versa.
I have never seen a fucking geek themed store exclude anyone in my life. Why would they? That's just bad fucking business. "Oh sorry, I don't want to take your money because you have a vagina." Gimme a fucking break!
These people aren't geeks...they're just attention seekers. They love playing victim and playing victim lets them hide their lack of knowledge on the thing they're supposedly into.
And what boggles my mind is that there were always women into these hobbies but because something is majority male it’s seen as a problem.
One example is Star Wars. I am a huge fan of the pre Disney stuff and I remember a lot of women read the EU books that Disney wiped out. But KK didn’t want those types of female fans who actually liked Star Wars I guess.
Same with Skyrim. My favorite game and I’ve chatted with women who play it on the subreddit.
Sorry you ran into that jerk. You’ll find them everywhere but the characterization that the media gives nerd culture or gamers is ridiculous
Remember "The force is female!"? Just mind boggling, disgusting levels of narcissism and feminist delusion to make THE FORCE of all things gendered.
I honestly feel like these women just like being the center of attention, and as mean as this sounds, I think they play victim to cover the fact that they aren't what they say they are. But of course, that's just my personal opinion.
Or it could be they misread the room....or they just want to be the center of attention and being a victim is the easiest way to do it these days.
That implies it was accidental. It wasn't.
What is it with women ALWAYS going "waaaahhh I was a such an avid gamer grrrrrrl, comic reader and super nerd XD growing up but the mean boys never let me play"? It seems like revisionist history. I DO remember growing up hunched over at school reading comics or gaming magazines and my experience was more this:
https://i.redd.it/hrt40nliq6cz.jpg
Women going to comic shops and enjoying fandom for years: "Am I a complete joke to you?"
It's always been a complete bullshit argument to anyone who is a part of those groups, and if people like her aren't just lying to get sympathy points (which is a common pattern I see) it's because she misunderstood someone's awkwardness or questions about lore to be a microaggresion against women. Some women will literally get offended when you start asking them what parts they like about a subject and act as if you're challenging their fan credentials.
Also YoungRippa fans represent! 💪 He made the best most detailed overview of the Justice League I've ever seen.
I learned about Rippa through his band/rapping and then learned later he was into comics
The stupid thing to me is I grew up around girls who were geeks. I grew up around girl gamers and the like...and I don't remember anyone really have an issue with it in my circles. In fact, we welcomed it! Why wouldn't you want to associate with a girl who has common interests and isn't just mocking you about it unlike some preppy fucking up-her-own-ass mainstream basic bitch?
The problem is the "basic bitches" jumped on the geek trend when the geek trend became cool and became "chic-geeks"
These people aren't geeks...they're "chic geeks"...they jumped on the trend when nerdy stuff became "cool" but of course, they have to make it all about them and their "oppression" because it covers the fact that they know fucking shit all and it's easier to cry victim then actually represent what you supposedly love. It's the same old story.
"Oh noes! He asked me a question I don't know...QUICK! Accuse him of being passive aggressive to cover up the fact I don't know the answer to something because I'm not what I say I am!"
Fuck these people! Fuck chic-geeks.
Or alternatively, let's be 100% honest here. Female friendships are passive aggressive as all fuck. I've seen it first hand. Women who will smile and joke with their girlfriends, but as soon as their back is turned, out comes the knife. And if not knife then very passive aggressive comments. I've seen it first hand with my own female friends in my circle.
Could it possibly be they misconstrue guys for doing the same thing when a guy is simply asking them a basic question in effort to find out if they have anything in common?
Also, when it inevitably flops (no one wants to hear from this whiny cunt): Sexism!
There should be exclusive male spaces and hobbies. They can start a female comic industry.
Young men shouldn’t be 100% observed and policed by women everywhere they go, everything they do.
Also, women should not be allowed unsupervised access to children. It’s statistically proven to be destructive and in my opinion it’s degenerate.
The program is zeitgeist. Resist and punnish the so-weak-minded who absorb and transmit it; don't excuse or ignore it.
