The argument is that mask wearing is a genuine public health concern comparable to being suitably clothed when in public. Except that for other public heath requirements of that sort, they aren't relaxed as a type of reward (eg. you never see someone let you take off your shirt or pants for 30 minutes as a reward for classroom behavior).

Similarly in occupations where PPE that restricts breathing is a requirement they don't use that as a reward either (eg. if you paint cars or spray pesticide for a living you don't get to just take off your respirator in the middle of the job when the hazard still exists)

I've been pushing that hypocrisy logic with the few maskurbators I know, but it's talking to a brick wall. There's just not enough critical thinking capacity there to get past their emotional "if it saves one life" BS.

True but when employers start mandating things for employee safety then the government starts getting involved. When my employer went over their mask policies they started quoting OSHA standards for masks, which suggests they're treating this as an occupational hazard. And if OSHA gets involved there doesn't have to be "critical thinking capacity", just a bureaucrat asking questions like "did you follow company policies regarding PPE?" "Did your employer tell you you could remove your PPE when the hazard still existed?" And so on.

if you paint cars or spray pesticide for a living

If you do either of those things for a living you already know that cotton masks will protect you from absolutely nothing other than than someone coughing directly into your mouth.

You wear a mask with a carbon filter and rubber seal, and you shave every morning to make sure it ACTUALLY SEALS.

Correct. The point is your employer is saying "this occupational hazard exists; you must wear this PPE to reduce the risk of the hazard whenever the hazard exists for you". What they don't then get to do is say "as a reward for a job well done, you may temporarily remove your PPE while the hazard still exists".

All this shit is either an occupational hazard or it isn't. If it is, then PPE isn't optional; and fines and firings ensue for non-compliance regardless of who it is. If it's not, then it should be taken as seriously as a dress code.
