As someone with very, very little interest in modern music, it's amusing to me to see how "punk" has become socialist conformity. Yet another example of failure to gatekeep.
It seems insane that the youth of our country agree with the government and big corporations and think they are counter culture for doing so.
That's because it is insane. Leftism is not rational or honest. They embrace and thrive on dishonesty and indecency.
As someone who immediately saw the irony in Rage Against The Machine's debut album becoming as huge of a commercial hit as it did, and laughed at the fact that none of the morons that bought it twigged to the notion that they were just as commercialized and capitalist in their neo-socialist conformity as the yuppies and society they were "rebelling" against, nothing in the realm of "punk" surprises me anymore.
Mainstream commercial nihilism can't be trusted?!
I didn't say it was.
I was remarking on what a joke the very concept of "anti authoritarian" is.
It didn't 'become' socialist conformity. It was always socialst conformity. "Non-conformists" have always been nothing more than people who conform to a different standard, but a standard no less. They're just as conformist as anyone else.
What better way to stick it to THE MAN than firing your drummer of 14 yrs because his doctor told him he'd probably die if he took this experimental drug to protect him from a virus he's already had and probably still has antibodies for.
Offspring? Punk?
Pretty Fly for a White Guy? THAT Offspring? They seemed like the mainstreamest of mainstream rock.
There was tons of mainstream "punk" in the late 90s.
When she's saying that I'm like a disease...Then I wonder how much more I can spend
Well, I guess I should stick up for myself...But I really think it's better this way
The more you suffer
The more it shows you really care
Right? Yeah, yeah, yeah
When they saying, oh, they will lock down with me
Then I see them dining out with their friends
When they saying, oh, they'll send a check out to me
Then I wonder how much more they can spend
They peaked before they broke out with Ignition. Everything else after that wasn't as good.
I still like rise and fall but thats because I'm a sucker for algorithm generated "hit songs" like linkin park made.
Hell, it (and Linkin Park) is still better than anything "modern" rap or hip-hop produces, IMHO...
Fuck that (literal) noise...
Offspring might be more politically opposed to me than some rappers (it seems), but nonetheless, I absolutely despise that genre... Hell, it's almost like I have a visceral reaction when I hear anything "rap" produced in the last... Decade and a half, or so, lol...
Aaaaaannnd apparently that's why I can't pull white chicks, down here, lol... They fucking love that shit, and I can't even pretend to bear it. sigh
Aaaand there goes another band I won't be listening to, from now on.
Cool. They've been completely irrelevant for at least a decade anyway, so honestly... I don't really GAF...
Hopefully it turns some fans away, though. That'd be nice. I'm sure of the... Few thousand actual fans they have left, a few might be turned off enough by this, lol.
Ah, who'd have thought. So much for the "rebels" they once proclaimed to be...
"I want you bad" my arse, ahahahaha...
Not to gatekeep but if anyone really thought the Offspring were rebellious or punk, holy shit
At least the Germs, a band I thought were terrible, never conformed. And they had a literal faggot as their singer but at least they didn't follow anyone.
Oh bummer. I can’t spend $80 to see a 90s pop band while drinking $15 beers.
Technically, depending on where they operate this might be a violation of the law and fall under medical discrimination (I'm fairly certain this would be illegal to do in the states, especially because he has a pre-existing condition that directly makes him exempt from vaccines).
Possibly the number one bad faith argument that shitlibs use to push the experimental mRNA gene therapy is "think of all the people with pre-existing conditions who can't get the vaccine, inject yourself with this mystery substance for them." Here's someone who literally can't get it on orders from their doctor.
Since this news broke I've been seeing references to Offspring being "punk" and I'm just confused. I'm not a big music guy - obviously I've heard of them, I even know a couple of their songs, but I legit never thought anyone considered them punk.
I sometimes listen to boring, normie tier radio when I drive, and I heard "Why Don’t You Get a Job?" today, on possibly the most milquetoast radio station in the area that isn't aimed at complete geriatrics. In central Europe. That's not punk, that station doesn't play punk, the people who listen to this station don't want to hear punk. Offspring isn't punk, it's inoffensive pop. Rock-Pop, maybe? Pop-Rock? Again, I'm not a music guy, but this absolutely fails to check out.
Jesus Christ I hate the music industry. One of these days I'm going to find the last writable CD on the planet, burn a bunch of MP3s of Mongolian throat singing and Georgian hymns to it, assuming the ancient burner drive I haven't used in a decade still even works, and I'll stuff it into my car's head unit and never listen to the radio again.
The key word is "Brand".
