Though with a devil on his shoulder whispering to him at every major choice. The man could have looked for other sources of information, he could have looked for an out, but like many he did not escape his demons and perhaps didn't even know the possibility existed.
Don't deny his agency. We all have a demon on our shoulder.
I used to think this way. Then I looked into IQ research and learned that a significant portion of the population are actual npc lemmings who will walk off the dysgenic and degenerate cliff unless religion or government tells them not to.
You are correct except in the fact that moral agency isn't related to IQ.
