The Japanese are so ethno-centric that if they have a foreign character in their anime's they always have to address they are 1/4 or 1/2 Japanese. Otherwise they are literally treated as outsiders instead.

The Japanese have exactly two culturally significant opinions on mixed race;
If you're mixed race white AND attractive AND can speak Japanese, you're exotic.
