One economics textbook I read uncoupled ownership of property and central planning. According to the authors, both communism and fascism are centrally planned. The difference is that in communism, the property is state-owned and in fascism, it's privately owned.
Capital is stored time and labor. Capitalism is saving resources for future production or consumption. Every person with a dollar in their pocket is a capitalist. To end capitalism is to end civilization.
Capitalism is defined as private ownership. Now when you get into things like government bailouts, or government contracts, then I think you have a good point about whether those companies are truly private, but state capitalism is an oxymoron.
