Every retiring athlete always utters this same line without addressing the real reason they are retiring is either A) their skills have deteriorated so much that their level of play is embarrassing or B) they want to keep playing but no one will pay them to anymore.
The successor will probably be woke, the games will lose what made them special (even if they did start to be copy-paste after a while), and the series will degrade.
