It wasn't so much of an aftermath but just a shooting there (the Heavenly Peace Avenue).

Something about the grey shades in the B&W photo that make it ever so cold and grim.
Also the tank man scene is actually aftermath, from the morning after (when it was cleaned up).

To communists, people are as disposable as bacteria.
For Communism, it was Tuesday.
Because they don't even use that word anymore. It's just "Tiananmen Square" or "Tankman" never "Massacre."
People don't seem to realize the "Iconic tankman" photo is actually China approved for distribution in the west.
They may not allow any reference inside china, but outside they just wanted to rewrite the narrative. By avoiding any reference to what actually happened, focusing only on the one "Hero" standing, safely, in front of a bunch of not moving tanks, they have created a subliminal narrative that one man's protest stopped an army.
And then everyone clapped, and everything was fine!
People who are not brainwashed drones are frequently shocked to see and learn what really happened, because this "Let's celebrate tankman" subliminal narrative has worked incredibly well. People who are brainwashed actually believe that he walked away and the tanks all turned around and went home.
I seem to recall he was hustled away by others and never heard from again.
And there was so much else going on at the time, crap happening in china was easily forgotten, especially in light of the soviet union having a slow-motion breakdown (and in fact, china's government being "unleashed" was seen as a side-effect of Soviet power over them slipping.)
China had been at (cold, sometimes hot) war with the Soviets for decades.
"War" within the family.
