Is it REALLY just Medieval-era bad blood with them doing anything and everything just to "own the English"?
Then I suppose the question is, what do you do about it, since Scotland seems deadset on going down this road, and the only one I have heard is Carl Benjamin (half-jokingly) saying to give them their independence then rebuild Hadrian's Wall and give the Scots what for when they come screaming south.
To be fair, England effectively conquered and subjugated Scotland in fairly brutal form. The Anglicization may have been beneficial overall, but that doesn't excuse the suppression and mass murder.
The treatment of Scotland and Ireland by the English is actually what pushed Benjamin Franklin to promote rebellion and independence in America. He was terribly concerned, especially after the introduction of the Coercive Acts, that England was going to effectively subjugate the American colonies and institute an aristocracy backed with military force as they had done in Ireland.
From the Scots perspective, it feels like they were being constantly betrayed and treated as "lesser British" compared to the English. The British Parliament was effectively the English Parliament, and they never really ruled over Scotland, Wales, and Ireland as if these places were equals. When the Scotts were forced to dissolve their Parliament in service to the British Parliament, it really did feel to the Scots that their autonomy had been stripped away.
Consider the animosity you would have if the Capital of the US was New York City, and your state government was dissolved, and you were told that the New York State Assembly was now the American Assembly, and your interests would totally be represented by Virtual Representation.
Well, this problem has continued to be an issue as the British Parliament never fully represented the Scotts in the first place, and was happy to destroy industries in Scotland when it didn't effect England. Now that the British Parliament is turning against the English, some people have suggested forming an English Parliament for the benefit of England.
The British Parliament has been a crock of shit, and the Scots know it. As such, the complaints are legitimate... and that's exactly the problem.
I'll give you a statement from Julia Brown:
I'm Julia Brown. For 9 years I was a member of the Communist Party, serving as an undercover agent for the FBI. During that time, I learned that the Communist conspiracy had been planning and working for years to bring violent revolution to America. It was to be a Communist revolution, but the great majority of the American people would not be allowed to realize that until it had already happened. If all goes according to the Communist blueprint, Americans will believe that the chaos and violence has something to do with Civil Rights. Our enemies were quick to find our weakest point of their attack. They knew that racial differences could provide them with an excellent wedge to divide our people. Their strategy, simply, has been to keep hammering on that wedge. To drive it deeper into our social structure. To open all wounds that have since healed, and deliberately to create new ones wherever they can.
...
Now this doesn't mean that there isn't a legitimate need for the advancement of Civil Rights for many of our negro citizens. Of course there is a need there. Otherwise, Communist agitators, posing as Civil Rights leaders, could never hope to enlist massive support for their schemes. The aspirations for Negros for full equality were not created by Communists, but they are used by Communists in such a way that idealistic Americans of all races can be tricked into implementing the Communist blueprint for revolution.
Having been on the inside of the Communist Party, it's easy for me to recognize this revolutionary agitation in disguise. But, the average American finds it hard to believe that something as worthy and noble sounding as a Civil Rights movement could possibly be a Communist maneuver.

Because it's a legitimate complaint, the Leftists will keep hammering at it until it breaks.
So it sounds like the only real way out for them is to go full Bismarck and undercut the Communist by giving a sanctioned, reasonable alternative, or just dissolve the UK and return to being Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England.
Not really, liberalism is the most subverse ideology of all.
A revolutionary, liberal, republican attitude is terribly subversive because people reject government protections and embrace the understanding of government as a dangerous weapon, only to be used by pointing it at your enemies. It can't help people, only hurt others. As such, you want ready access to the government through republican systems, and you don't want anyone to have enough to disrupt the balance of terror which makes a polite society.
As people refuse to use the government for advantage, they keep more of their prosperity and are able to realize they never needed the government in the first place.
So it sounds like they are just stuck in it for the long haul as they find their way back to liberalism and I should just thank my luckily stars that I both live in America and in an American state that values freedom and liberty.
