He's a Canadian classical liberal, and classical liberalism is 19th century ideology in which mediation was highly important. Unfortunately, like all classical liberals and conservatives in the 20th century, he fails to understand that socialism (and its tag alongs) cannot be reasoned with.
The public can be, and are being, won over. However, all the public will in the world (whilst useful) doesn't matter if you don't get the leavers of powers and use them to bring the hammer down on the left and their mad dream. The end justifies the means for them, and under no circumstances can we allow them to reach that end.
You hit the nail on the head.
The Lolbertarians and Cuckservatives really annoy the piss out of me with their "let the chips fall in place" mentality instead of realizing that the broader scope of the Left's plan is far more insidious than what it appears.
The Right also refuses to acknowledge the broader zeitgeist of the Left's control (i.e., of media, politics, academia, and even entertainment). They keep trying to reduce the influence to segmented aspects of culture-creep that -- as you mentioned -- they can just meme or "gotcha!" away, or political influence that they can alter at the next primaries or mid-terms, rather than recognizing that it's ALL one big behemoth moving in unison towards its intended goal.
This is it. It's like how you have some who still think apologizing when you anger the mob does anything except dig you a deeper grave. They can't even see the rules changed.
He fails to understand that the postmodernism underpinning the CRT and DIE ideology he understands are untenable is a weapon specifically designed to tear the foundations out from under the classical liberalism he - and I - prefer.
Classical liberalism was defeated and replaced by socialism. Sometimes literally, if you count the Bolsheviks and their concentration camps for anarchists and other dissenters.
Of course, FDR also had concentration camps in the US.
