I don't play it, as I despise these generic looter shooters that have no soul, and are just there for the dick waggers, but this dev post is really fucking clueless;
"However, as mentioned above and observed in a few discussions recently, these mechanics are not 100% clear and, in some cases (e.g. spike damage protection/death protection & invincibility), are “secret” mechanics with hidden cooldowns. Understanding these mechanics is a key aspect of understanding damage mitigation or one-shot kill instances and related issues."
Secret mechanics? And then "Understanding these mechanics is a key aspect of understanding.... etc."
How do you understand something that's secret?
You built a game for the type of people that need every detail to do the math to be the best, like WoW raiders back in the day, but you have 'secret' and 'hidden' things?
Those are known as bugs. Their game is dead and they know it.

The ugly, masculine women was an instant turnoff. I usually have no intentions of playing as female characters but when the men look soy-pilled and the women look like butch lesbians, it's an instant "No" from me.
People who pointed this out on the forums were shouted down by the typical SJWs and the threads locked. So obviously the devs don't want gamers like myself playing their crap, and I'm happy to oblige that assumption.
If I'm playing a game, any game, I want my stuff to be as beautiful as possible.
Character design is a big part of aesthetics. AND it's an easy one to get right. PS2 games have fantastic looking characters, and that's three full generations back, without PC power. Even PS1 has some games with stellar character designs. FF7-9 were limited by their engines, sure, but you still in cutscenes saw more or less what they were going for.
Let's say you're aiming for stylistically and purposefully ugly because the devs are ugly...
I don't want to play it. I don't care if it is "realistic". I play games for escapism, not realism. I own a couple games where they have managed to make beautiful horrors, every pus-weeping hole carefully placed. Would you buy a monster game with an inferior monster? If Godzilla's got mis-matched scales of varied shapes, mottled illogically-patterned skin, a humanoid face, and chicken legs... Buy the Godzilla game you bigot or you're body-shaming! No. I want a beautiful Godzilla.
And I want a beautiful human. I don't care if REAL Godzillas don't have perfectly symmetrical internally-patterned spikes with exosymmetric patterns as they go along the spine. And I don't care if REAL women don't have likewise. But, like, with body parts women have, not spine spikes. Though if their character design includes spine spikes, some demon-woman or something, then yeah, they better look good too.
Exactly this.
Aesthetics is the cornerstone of visual art. Without it you just have a forgettable hodgepodge of senseless imagery.
However, in this case, it's not necessarily senseless given that the designs are deliberate. They intended to make the women ugly for the purpose of furthering the SJW agenda of trying to normalize the whole trending tranny nonsense.
There are still some idiots out there saying "Hurr durr they don't just don't know how to model characters." No, they know exactly how to model characters and it's precisely WHY they're making the women ugly and the men soy-pilled.
The intent is to normalize these designs. I always feel a little bit of hope whenever I see people recognize the intent by Western developers and call it out for the bullcrap that it is.
Oh for sure they're deliberate choices. If you can make it look good in 20-year-old tech, you can make it look good in modern tech, because in a pinch, you can use that 20-year-old tech!
There does exist some tech that is hard to use. PS3 was famously notoriously hard to code for due to an insane skill ceiling built into it, to the point where the PS4 was actually a downgrade to maximum specs (but easier to use middle-ground). So some excuses in skill can exist... For amateurs.
And I think that's the issue with the blind consumers. The sticking point is these things can, on occasion, be hard to do... for amateurs. Like themselves. And so they project that competence level on others, and think it realistic that experts taking months working on it would make the same errors.
What gets me about it is... I mentioned beautiful horrors. It is entirely possible to make a beautiful horror. And it is entirely possible to make a beautifully scarred person. Look at Hanako from Katawa Shoujo, half her body is griddle-fresh back-bacon, but still aesthetically pleasing. (I'd link a screencap of her full-body scars shot, but Rule 5 may fall afoul since, you know, Eastern art style).
If you can make someone who has two-face's face-skin stretched across half their body into a pleasing (if troubling and sorrowful) image, I can't see why you can't do the same with any pet project the SJW agenda would wish to project.
Propaganda is fine, in an art medium sense. America's Army was overtly a propaganda FPS game, it was decent. GATE is overtly a JSDF propaganda anime, it's... Well, it's pretty, at least. If you want people to think trans people can be beautiful... make them beautiful. It only highlights their own bigotry and hatred, that they cannot conceive of mere idea that you COULD make a beautiful trans person. The fact the idea apparently never crossed their minds (or it would be the go-to) just stuns me in the levels of hatred they must have for those with the dysphoria affliction.
You bring up so many great points, and if I had more time I would definitely like to delve more into them, but there's one specific point I definitely want to dig into...
You're absolutely right that everyone uses propaganda in different ways, as well as how they depict certain issues and topics.
A good example is that the Japanese beautify everything, even the trans freaks. The crossdressers/trans characters in their media are all made to be beautiful.
However, in their media they recognize that a crossdresser/trans is supposed to pass as the opposite gender, so they still create that character in the ideal gender role.
That works against the Leftist agenda of weakening male/female relations, because if a trans person looks like a female then it just raises the attraction someone has for females who look like the trans person. Hence, it leads back to connecting males with females if the trans person represents an ideal of what men find attractive in females (even though realistically, majority of trannies just look like freaks).
In any case, their agenda is pretty clear: to muddy the ideal. To dilute beauty standards and push the separation of the quitessential male/female archetype.
In short, they don't want beautiful trans people anymore than they want beautiful fair-skinned redheads in movies or media, anymore than they want white heterosexual couples portrayed in a positive light on the mainstream stage, anymore than they want to promote attractive east-Asian females, or encourage healthy relationships for stable birthrates in first-world countries.
It sounds too bogus to be true, yet it seems to be a widespread effort across every single Western media medium to pelt people over the head with this crap.
Anyway, sorry for the long rant, it's just something that bothers the crap out of me because it's inescapable in all of modern media. I've had to basically consume lots of old movies and games to wash the propaganda out of my mind's palate.
Let's just say I am tired of the numerous agendas being pushed in our faces.
There is a lot of money being poured into destroying this country and the values and strengths that built it.
I'm right there with you.
Yeah I tried the demo and I thought the story and setting were kind of interesting but once you get into the actual gameplay it’s all just kind of barebones, very generic third person cover shooting. I fucking hate games where you have a lot of abilities and weapons but they only give a couple of slots for each because they expect you to be in a group of three or four people.
War frame has legitimately more interesting gameplay and it’s free.
General consensus seems to be that the demo got people hyped, and the game turned out to be what it is.
Anthem 2.0
My opinion is from me reading many posts as I did not play either the demo or the game.
Just don't buy any game until you can see reviews from actual players. Fuck YouTubers and game sites in general.
Besides the hacky/slashy/shooty being Warframe's main focus, it genuinely some really good lore.
"Lore". Honestly... I read the Lord of the Rings three times. 100's of other books. All of Steinbeck. All of Hemingway. On and on.
I don't give a fuck about some hacky story from a writer for a video game.
The only writing and story I have liked in the past 15 years is Cyberpunk.
People are getting so dumbed down with video games and music. Fucking game soundtracks. "That slaps". Electronica horseshit.
Turn off your fucking computer and pick up a guitar ladies, and put some music on from 1955-2005. Actual talent and no auto-tune, or synthesizers or computer generate bullshit.
Fucking drones plugged into the Matrix.
One day, useful idiots will rave about a single note held for an hour.
Maybe I'm just a 30 year old boomer but 'Secret mechanics' used to be the norm. I actually kind of hate feeling like I have to look at wikis and charts to be able to play a game, rather than just feeling it out for myself.
Quake never gave you any of this shit.
Back then secrets were secrets only because we couldn't communicate effectively and instantly like we can today.
If you're as old as me then you probably remember days when getting video game guides and walkthrough involved going to kiosk and picking up written guide or if you had internet you'd go to GameFAQ and pick one of walkthrough guides written in notepad/microsoft word. Naturally you'd have to wait few months before first guides would surface to begin with.
Nowadays you go to PowerPyx.com or similar and you have nicely formatted paragraphs and subsections on top of timestamped HD videos that explain every single aspect of the game.
Sort of, but expecting the developers to give you all the information is still new to me.
That info was still secret even if the players were working together to document it all on gamefaqs.
Shit, I remember when it took a week for a for a new minecraft feature to get decent documentation. Now that shit's on the wiki the same day the patch goes live.
It does get tiresome. I do spreadsheets at work. I don't want to do them at home, relaxing.
I enjoyed the game quite a bit in the first half despite the creeping wokeness, but then in the second half things just get so retardly stupid. The big twist is one of the most boring, stupid twists in the world that defies all logic. (spoiler, humans were the baddies the whole time and somehow the war-like group who left earth after you managed to get to the new planets waaay before your ship did! They then enslaved the alien population and murdered them in concentration camps...yes....the main bad guys are normal human nazis, because of course)
And the woke shit with your team is pretty hilarious. The only white guy (other than possibly your created char) dies and this butch lesbian gets crippled and starts fighting in a wheelchair. God this game just gets so so dumb and I ain't touching it ever again...thank god I didn't pay for it with Gamepass. lmao
It sounds like your experience was with the demo, and it is easier to contain and present a facsimile of the full game, hiding issues they know about.
And I would suggest finding something other than 'big loot games'. Try Cyberpunk or Days Gone, if you have a decent PC. Then wait for a looter shooter that actually gets it right.
I don't think most will anymore as there is no soul in them anymore and they all just grind it down to the most basic, repetitive functions.
cyberpunk is bad
Ok Captain Shitferbrains... me and my brother both put 400+ hours in each with barely an issue and loved it top to bottom.
Don't be a lemming. And if YOU over-hyped, that's on you, jackoff.
Too many wait for someone on YouTube to tell them what to think, then shout it from the towers.
Sadly, the populace is 80% drones who regurgitate what they are fed, while thinking they have original thought.
These are bugs. I guarantee the insane players that dove into this WERE building their spreadsheets, and they determined some shit is just non-nonsensical
I don't play the game either, but from what they are saying it sounds like in-game mechanics to prevent you from being 1-shotted by NPC's - i.e. damage that would instantly kill you instead drops you to a very low health . But it's on a cooldown, so it's going to save you someimes, but not all the time. These type of mechanics may get suspended on boss fights as well, depending on the type on encounter it is.
I assume they want to keep the exact workings hidden from the player to prevent players from exploting it.
The Division had something similar in place - it was more like a 'you just fucked up, but we're giving you another chance' thing, but didn't work against certains NPC's like the hunters who would one-shot melee you if you got too close.
I agree, this sounds fine. It's like offering bad-luck protection for loot - you're not meant to be optimising it, it's just there to make sure you aren't the one unlucky bastard who fails an unbiased 1-in-10 roll at a legendary 100 times in a row.
Pokemon Red/Blue/Green says "hi"
IVs/EVs used to be totally hidden, and weren't even admitted to be a thing.
Errr, i don't get your complaint OP. Discovering mechanics that are not obvious on the surface is half of the reason to even play looter shooters of any sort. In fact, i am fairly positive WoW raiders back in the day did everything short of raiding Blizzard HQ to discover stuff that was not documented in public sources. Because we had similar stuff being done with significantly smaller games.
And for the record, i don't play Outriders and won't play it either because fuck online-locked single player games. But your point is just grasping for straws.
Once a game is unleashed on the public, the players figure shit out very quickly. They figure out each actual mechanic on their own through insane amounts of testing and communicating with others. And when over and over shit is inconsistent, they know it is broken.
The passionate players have figured out it is a shitfest, and the devs have no answers. Just wait and see where it goes.
You'll see.
Oh I think its much much worse than that.
Those are not bugs but deliberate trigger events designed to stretch out your playtime each time you're about to reach a goal or gain significant progress.
It's the same kind of cheap stuff like input read from Mortal Kombat arcade machines or rubber mode in Need for Speed.
Interesting.
It was confirmed dying to me when they already had a sale so soon.
The moment i heard that crack about "rednecks on january 6th" watching some streamer play it it instantly went on my shitlist.
None of the sponsored people played it after the period ended.
