It began quite well into Cold War. Before this France and Britain have been actively fighting alongside the Israelis against the Arab puppets of the Soviets, whole the Americans were sending ships to make them (Israel and allies) stop. But still never totally, for example the American ships evacuated Arafat and the PLO from the Israeli-besieged Beirut, and of course later negotiated that Arafat got his actual Palestinian state entity to rule.
America is also traditionally the global #1 nation donor in funding the Palestinians (both the so-called "refugees" who were almost all born in countries like Syria where they live in, and the mentioned Palestinian Authority). This is just almost never mentioned, and does nothing to stop the Palestinian "Death to America" attitude because they literally bite the hand that feeds them.
There is NONE unless you're religious and want to see the 3rd temple of Jerusalem created, which is still debated if it's an actual building or more metaphysical/spiritual meaning. Being allies serves zero purpose and don't even back us up with troops when we're fighting in their backyard. We don't even need them to keep stomping around in the ME since we could just use Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Iraq as staging grounds for actions and getting spooks in region.
Iran is least hypocritical, just not hosting any Palestinian refugees to oppress, massacre or expel like all their Arab "friends" have done.
Even Kadafi expelled Palestinians, having them one day pack up and march through a desert to Egypt, and he did so to collectively punish them for Arafat signing a peace deal with Israel. And the Syrians just recently killed thousands of their own stateless Palestinians during their civil war, and no one cared. Arab countries that violently expelled them en masse or just killed them off include Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Iraq (where it was work of Iranian-supported Iraqi Shia militias but not on Iran's orders). And Egypt just refused to take the Gaza strip (with the unruly Gazans) back when offered.
Iran's also absolutely ruthlessly pragmatic with the Afghan and Palestinian Shia refugees, who can only achive Iranian citizenship if they send a family member to fight for Iran in Syria.
