Er...aren't contraceptives vastly more likely to give you blood clots than the Astrazeneca? I also find it rather curious that a lot of this talk is being driven by the EU, who's vaccine procurement scheme has gone down like cold sick whilst Britain has vaccinated about half its population.

I'm beginning to suspect some political fuckery/general EU incompetency (what else is new?) and they're just blaming Astrazeneca because it's the easiest thing to do.

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!

"To be fair" (everyone hates those words), it is entirely possible that PER DOSE Astrazenica is more dangerous than birth control re:clotting, but one is taken twice, while the other is taken twice... per day. Or some other situation like that, where rather than the truth lying between both sides, both sides are entirely accurate but arguing different points.

0.00017% sounds like a lot less than 0.01%, until you realize that after 3 years, you've taken 1000x the doses. 0.00017*1000=0.17, far, FAR greater.

But that failure rate for a one-time risk is low enough to not be a concern compared to other, more likely side effects, or unknown longer term effects.

You're reversing the calculation. People take birth control for three years. One dose per day, 365 days, three years, 1000+ doses.

And they calc it usually by "did they get one while on it?", for most such things. If they're really diligent, they'll include a baseline rate, too.

You're talking to a professional victim who thinks, no kidding, that the virus was "created by women to kill men", and that this vaccine was "created by women to kill men". He just wants to play the victim.

His predictions never pan out, but that doesn't stop him from making further predictions based on the presumption that 51% of the world's population is plotting to kill him. Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Who is Dr Wang Yanyi? Who is Shi Zhengli?

Ladies and gents, we got it - the proof that the virus was just a plot to "kill men".

You're not just nuts, you're an automated nut dispenser.

My predictions never pan out?

I'll keep track of them, if you want, and make sure that everyone knows of the nonsense that you have puked out over the years.

'Member when you said that the "curfew for men" would be passed? 'Member when you said that Collins and Murkowski would vote for Trump's first impeachment?

I can go on and on, but reasoning with you is like playing chess with a pigeon. It all ends in "WAHMEN WANT TO KILL ME! HELP!"

AstraZeneca vaccine FUD (Fear Uncertainty Doubt) seems sponsored/started by EU.

They want to make UK fail.

That does sound like something that the EU would do, but given the monumental and catastrophic failure that has been the EU vaccine rollout, and the extent to which the EU relies on AstraZeneca, I am not sure that they would be willing to engage in that degree of self-sabotage.

You underestimate just how stupid bureaucrats can be. You know they've seized millions of Astrazeneca doses, many of them bought and paid for by other countries, and then let them rot in the warehouse? It's because of this that Britain's vaccination drive has massively slowed down.

That does sound like something bureaucrats would do. But in case of bureaucrats, I'd sooner attribute it to incompetence (or rather, incentives) than malice.

I just know one thing: nothing that is done is done for the good of us dirty commoners.

It's because of this that Britain's vaccination drive has massively slowed down.

Cause you still have to deliver the vaccines to the other countries?

I recall Macron and Merkel being pissed they got no vaccine. Mark Blyth in his podcasts implied they went for the cheaper deal, and to no surprise it had lower priority.

I was going to say ... what excess blood clots? I'd understood that yes, there were some blood clots ... about the number you'd expect in such a sample size.

Or are we shortly to receive news of the AZ vaccine leading to massive numbers of deaths from Alzheimer's - which is the UK's leading cause of death anyway...?
