In my not-so-humble opinion, being against the death penalty is more a matter of logistics than morality. It is often difficult to prove beyond any doubt (not just reasonable) that someone did, in fact, do the crimes they did. Even film evidence, I know a guy who is a dead ringer for another person I've met, and it's not just me thinking it from one or two traits, I've had over a dozen people confirm the similarity when I brought it up. Not to mention deepfaking exists nowadays. So some doubt will often exist.
That's really the reasonable objection to the death penalty, not being sure you're getting the right target. You are quite right, these are people who, were they to disembowel themselves on historically significant statues, minding the cost of cleaning it up and paying the psych bills of the people who found them, and funeral services on taxpayer dime, it would still be a huge net profit to society. But the problem is normally you can't guarantee it was them.
But if they're admitting the home video they took of themselves doing the crime is theirs... That's beyond even most unreasonable doubts.
When you bring up the death penalty here, people will bring up Guy Paul Morin.
But what about people like Clifford Olsen? Who ADMITTED he killed all those kids, and then TAUNTED the parents' victims from jail?
Hell, even when I bring up making exceptions for that, the human-worshippers (who usually would also be happy to execute a dog for biting a trespasser, because humanz rool and dogs must be good dhimmis) always whine "But Guy Paul Moriiiiin!" Bleah.
