"When a Prince must put in policies anathema to the desires of the public, it is best to put a scapegoat responsible for the policies. Then, during the outcry, the Prince may come in and save the public from their oppressor, while keeping the policies he wished to institute in place by only changing them superficially. The public is stupid, it will willingly go along with not only the policies put in place by proxy, but further policies as well for saving them from the scapegoat tyrant."
Machiavelli's "The Prince", a hands-on guide to being a dictator. Written five hundred years ago. Loose translation, so, you know, probably not an EXACT quote. But this has been going on IN A GUIDEBOOK for five hundreds of years.
I didn't even drag it out of that book, but probably correlated it with some other point in history. I'm starting to be of the mindset that those of us that are familiar with the rise and fall of governments in history are really no more than just doomed to watch, knowing what comes next in the story.
Sigh... Notto this shitto again.
