No amount of gamergate or drumph budged me from my idiot bitch perch on the very moderate right. A summer of riots to the applause of the establishment, a 5000 page "relief" bill that funnels about 75% of the money to special interests, and the establishment reeeeeing at the wrong type of riot (despite being orders of magnitude smaller than the ones they applauded) has made me pretty comfortable calling myself a reactionary.
Same. The race riots made me transition from "corporations and politicians don't give a shit about me" to "corporations and politicians actively hate me and cheer for my destruction, and I don't owe a system that cheers for my destruction a goddamn thing".
I have had someone in real life unironically tell me that gamergate is a means to grab people disenfranchised with the current state of gaming in an effort to groom them, whilst still being in favor of everything that makes the current state of gaming so shitty. How do people have so little self-awareness?
The only thing GG ever did was redpill a crapload of people on how corrupt and rotten to the core the entire system is. I already knew the left was corrupt and full of cronyism, but I didn't realize even college books were full of leftist trash until I opened one a few years back and it completely lied about GG. From that point on I've come to realize virtually everything in our society is a lie. Like Napoleon stated, history is just a bunch of agreed upon lies.
We really do live in a fake society. It's been hollowed out and replaced ship of Theseus style so that nearly none of the original parts remain, but it still has the same name.
Gamergate was one moment that revealed that quite a bit. The tactics that the media uses especially. It wasn't until I read and understood that the exact same things were happening in the Weimar republic that things began to fall into place.
In a sense that "Gamergate is creating nazis!!!" is somewhat true. At least in so far as it caused people to learn the truth about previous historical narratives. The defeat of the National Socialists was used as a foundation to create a new society. So any event which would cause people to question that founding is a heretic, even if it's as innocuous as people who want games journalists to stop lying.
