From my somewhat uneducated perspective it looks like another form of conversion therapy but from gay to trans rather then gay to straight, which is considerably worse.

That's what makes this whole issue so much more insane.

In some states, it's illegal to provide someone "conversion therapy" even if they ask for it. A man goes to a therapist and tells them that he doesn't feel like he's gay and wants to try to get rid of those desires/urges, but the state says nope that's illegal.

But children can decide that they're the opposite sex, sometimes without the parents consent, and the state not only supports that child taking puberty blockers, they also make it illegal to even challenge that child's proclamation. Therapists aren't allowed to provide what has been proven to be the most effective treatment for gender dysphoria, which is just regular therapy
