There was a movement where people wanted to stand out and be actually different, to prove to the world it was more than fine, it was cool. At some point in the last decade it became an exclusive club, where even a slight difference of cultures or views was unacceptable.

100% this. The issues we're having in the west are far from something that just popped up in the last decade. This might be the time period where people are waking up to it, but these groups have almost always been leading towards this insanity.

Fate is a major anime/visual novel franchise, spanning games, anime, manga. Fate/Grand Order is their gacha game, sorta like afk arena/raid shadow legends or take your pick. It is well know for its waifus and rabid whale fanbase, but has some good entries in anime and some not so good entries...

As I understand it, Fate is waifu bait and will genderbend most historical figures into waifu forms. Having a character insist that the persona of the original person be a waifu doesn't magically make the historical person a woman.
IIRC the main waifu 'Sabre' is supposed to be King Arthur.
Fate does indeed genderbend lots of historical male figures into waifus. This is lampshaded several times in FGO's main story as you encounter them (historical records say X were a man), but as far as I'm aware, for in-universe purposes these characters will regardless always have been women in the series.
In the context of this post however it's worth mentioning that in FGO, Da Vinci specifically comes out with exposition that they made their servant self in the image of the Mona Lisa, ie. regardless of the "real" Da Vinci, their outer shell is now that of a woman. This is the basis of the 'terf bullshit' claim in the post, that these two exceptions of a definite male existence inside someone who is female on the outside aren't male, and it's transphobic to say they are, even when the story straight up tells you so.
