They shouldn't have been so good at picking cotton.
They were fucking garbage at picking cotton and slave estates often did worse than tennant farming estates.
The only thing that made it worthwhile was that they were dirty cheap and no one gave a damn what you did with them.

You're kidding, but one of the explanations for slavery offered is that blacks were better suited (when it comes to immunity to disease and ability to withstand the climate) of the Southern US than whites were.
