If there were a national election today to abolish the Constitution and name Joe Biden the dictator, but with a nice name like the Communists use...something like Leader, I'm pretty sure it gets tens of millions of yes votes. I mean actual real not-fraudulent votes, although they would be accompanied by a lot more fake votes too. I don't think it would win, but there's a shitton of people that want their policies no matter what it takes.
They already have no problem with a one party state so why not a Glorious Leader.
Biden? Nah, he's just the mask. No one would have voted Dem if the POX was up front and centre, they learned from Hilary. But! The Trump win kind of threw them off their stride - first a black man, then a woman, then who knows, well, now they can jump to the "who knows" right away (a female mutt, that's what was next, I guess.)

When Erdogan says, "Democracy is like a train. You take it where you have to go, and then you get off," the progressives agree on the principle but disagree on the destination. They just want scientific government, as opposed to islamic. Everything they do is couched in the language of rationality, evidence and academia. They have papers and studies for everything.
The question then is why even have elections if the best policy can be determined in academies? Why not dissolve congress and just establish a technocratic state? The typical answer is that power wants to stay hidden. That's definitely a part of it. But I think the reason is rather that we have not yet arrived at the destination.
