How long before this is adopted more widely, even for domestic populations?

"Citizens for the good of the people, government will be measuring your location and body functions at all times. Thank you for your mandatory cooperation."

The smart device will be distributed for individual foreign visitors and will track their locations and measure the body’s temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate. If the tourist has a body’s temperature above 37.5 degrees celsius, it will immediately alert nearby medical officers for primary health assistance.

I'd expect cardio and a lot of sports to set it off as well.

I don't understand how it seems Asian countries seem to be so open to restricting freedoms. I understand China, but at least in my outsider view they all seem to be compliant. Is it just a cultural thing? Would something like this fly in Japan or South Korea? Am I just totally off-base and misinformed?

I mean, it's Asia. They never had an "enlightenment" period where parliamentary government was tried.

Freedom through limited government is a nearly exclusively western european thing. Individualism above collectivism, with intentional obstructions placed on government is almost an exclusively American thing. That's why Free Speech as Americans understand it exists basically only here, and the way we see it has only been a thing for about a century.

From a world-wide and historical perspective, we're the fucking radicals.

Yeah, I need to broaden my Asian history more. I've spent way too much time on American/European/Soviet mostly. That totally makes sense. Particularly since I see this in a place like Japan, where the people seem to hold a lot of values I do, yet are still quite accepting of government control.

I've tried to get that whole American free speech thing across to liberals before as they just don't get it. That's something I did know that is most certainly exclusively American. Some of the crazy stuff the left does here wouldn't fly in other countries, even those that are very good on free speech. They just don't understand how unique we have it.

Japan having Democracy is a unique circumstance of modern times showing the value of a democratic process for legitimacy.

Japan was ruled by a single authoritarian dynasty from the Sengoku Jidai to the Meiji Restoration. This dynasty took intensive and totalitarian interest in it's population and resources, including death penalties for people who would cut trees in a sacred forest (so that Japan didn't lose all of it's lumber supply), and was significantly isolationist. After which, it was replaced by an Empire under a royal monarchy, after which it was replaced by Fascist Militarists, after which it was replaced by Authoritarians who embraced Keynesian (Fabian Socialist) Economics.

They moral authoritarians, even totalitarian, and have very strict focus on family because of an ancient Clan culture. It's very difficult for socialists to make cultural headway in Japan when they already have Communist China as a rival, and their own form of authoritarianism is already culturally ingrained.

traditionally it is cultural yes, the cultural and political climate are quite different in Asia. I can't say they have absolutely zero concept of freedom though, but its interesting to note that, while in america the right wingers have been vehemently anti masks(which i can understand why), literally everyone in asia were wearing masks without any argument. Even the HK protesters were wearing masks (and those people have been fighting for democracy and for their freedom even harder than people in america), actually the HK government tried to punish the HK protesters by trying to ban them from wearing masks.

Thais have been fighting against their authoritarian monarchy HK style too(partly cause of the authoritarianism and partly cause of the incompetency, negligence and hedonism. ), so i can't say they dont have any concept of freedom but there is a different way of thinking around there.

I believe Thailand is the world's oldest monarchy and with some kind of parliament.

But any government could adopt this. Go out wearing your health tracker at all times, or stay home.

In fact I would guess that more people would prefer to wear this tracking device rather than wear a mask. Such a choice could be offered to the public just about anywhere. The future is here.

Oh yeah I could see it happening here in the US and I don't think it would go how I would like either. Millions would put it on and thank the government for keeping them safe and secure.

i think you'd be wrong on that actually. Mask wearing is so common in Asia that i highly doubt they'd prefer to wear a tracking device than wear a mask.

Asians are very collectivists. If we're talking in Asia, then it'll be among national lines. i.e. Chinese with Chinese, Japanese with Japanese etc.

For Asian-Americans, particularly the ones that are born here rather than immigrated. It'll be more generalized to just asian. Probably because of the SJW influence of trying to get all nonwhites together.

Thanks to that, it's also why I say to not overstate the idea of asian's being based because of the culture. It's with the parents usually, and while the kids take the concept of that hard work. They very much so fail to take in why their families moved to the US in the first place. Probably because it's taken for granted as a result of living here.

well... probably true, i dont know if im in the minority but in my family the younger 3rd generation (Western born) is more based lol. Dont know what the climate is like in america or for others is like though.

If you like authoritarian surveillance big brother governments that stalk you and track you everywhere, you should move to china. Those who would give up their freedoms for the sake of safety deserve neither.
