yeah, but that was pretty much par for the course with Final Fantasy at that point.

Don't get me wrong, if you liked VII, I wont hold it against you, but yeah... the hype about the graphics was strong when it came out...

oh dude. I was in my late twenties/early thirties, and You couldn't have gotten me to look out a window that time night, because some creepy monster was gonna be looking back at me. it was surreal.🤣

...that being said, fuck the camera in that game. one of the reasons it took so long to play the game was because I kept getting lost in that one alleyway. I can ride in a car all day long without an issue, but the camera swinging back and forth and up and down when you go back and forth made me wanna upchuck...

agreed. the simplicity of the art made it look a lot better. it worked within the constraints of what it was capable of, instead of cramming as many pixels onto a polygon as possible...

Don't get me wrong some good games came out in that 3d era, resident evil, silent hill (don't ever play that game at night, alone in a house in the middle of nowhere, lmao. I did that for an hour, on a PSP for crying out loud, and I was paranoid the rest of the night), etc. but it wasn't the graphics that made them good, it was the gameplay and the story (and the sound design in the case of silent hill, lol).

...honestly, I remember ff7 coming out and everybody raving about how fantastic it looked...I also remember looking at ff4 on the SNES (2 at the time in the us) and wondering if I was the crazy one...

final fantasy 10 or Halo

...I can say as someone who played the hell out of ffx and barely remembers halo that halo's story was probably better...

...honestly, final fantasy is sort of one of those franchises that should have stayed 2d... the 3d games were meh at best...

ugh, don't get me started on the growling bullshit... to each their own, and maybe i'm too married to the classic metal sound, but i hate it...

"blood blood satan death cunt"

edgelords gonna edgelord is all I'm gonna say about that, lmao.

but I wont lie, this one delightfully shocked me when I realized it existed (listen past the banner, it's more than that).

it really depends. Sometimes there's heavy use of instrumentals, sometimes just percussion to keep the rythm, sometimes there's none, sometimes they rely on "sampling" of audio from other sources along with the lyrics and backing music. It's variable, and maybe even depend on the setting of the performance.

it's different from say, my personal favorite genre, heavy metal, where they focus on complex rhythmic structures and harmonies that would make the classical composers blush with envy, throat-shredding vocals, and virtuoso guitar performances that torture the strings like they were in gitmo, but that lack of rigid structure does give it more flexibility in terms of experimentation.

I used to share your view, but while it isn't my absolute favorite genre, I've found music that was good along with the bad.

gangster culture

oh man, you think it's bad now, "gansta rap" was it's own sub-genre of phony bullshit in the 90s...

I'm not sure, I remember hearing that he supposedly stopped hanging out with Sargon over the latter's support of trump, though.

To be honest, I kinda stopped watching him after the beCandid scandal...

guy went by the handle David albrecht, so that's plausible. I honestly don't remember for sure.

I do remember everybody featured in it (with the possible exception of chris ray gun) let's played it at some point.

2
yeldarb1983 2 points ago +2 / -0

yeah, it was fun, though. it was this combination of a tower defense and a third-person shooter, and the in-jokes were really just the icing on the cake...

actually, I think Chris Raygun was added to the roster at one point as well... course he's got TDS out the wazoo at this point...

I'm not sure if it was a fan, or somebody who hated sargon, but it was a legitimately fun, if somewhat dated game. It had four playable characters last I heard (sargon himself, armored skeptic, shoeonhead, and harmful opinions) I might have to go through about fifty old hard drives and see if I still have the rar/zip somewhere...

here's somebody playing it to give you an idea... graphics are pretty much what you'd expect for an indy game, but the gameplay is fantastic...

yeldarb1983 2 points ago +2 / -0

honestly? I was prepared to hate her as much as Carl Manvers in Captain Ms. Marvel, so maybe that made her easier for me not to hate. Honestly, the "heel" character was more unlikeable, as it should be.

Disagree with the characters development of the new cast members

This is more of a nitpicky thing I thought of after the fact, honestly. The film is fantastic, but I try to be as objective as possible. As an example, Ice was a dick to maverick in the original top gun, but they made it clear why at least. his character was better fleshed out. The arrogant pilot (whose name I forget) in Maverick was just a dick until he wasn't.

I still like the film, obviously, and it's a lot better than some of the dreck they've put out in recent years, but there are flaws, just like any film.

2
yeldarb1983 2 points ago +2 / -0

yeah, but I can forgive that too, mainly, because if it was my film, I'd put all that geeky goodness in there too.

regarding the seraph fight...yeah, that would have been cool, but it probably would have been hard to do, given how smith worked at that point. It may have simply been too hard to find a good way to make it make even a little bit of sense in story...
